It might sound like something from science fiction movies, but it seems that in the year 2017 Flying Car might become a real possibility. The news comes more than a year after a Slovakian company called AeroMobil presented its prototype of a flying car. Now, it seems that this interesting transportation product might become available in the markets in less than 24 months. More importantly, the news is not just hearsay or an industry rumor. The AeroMobil SEO and Co-Founder Juraj Vaculik declared that his company plans the move with the flying car projects in a lot faster manner than previously expected.

He said that the company is scaling up the current models and developing dedicated teams that will work on the 2017 Flying Car project. According to him, in 2017 the company wants to announce the world’s first commercially available flying roadster. In an interview with CNBC, Vaculik underlined that the date will not be used to simply showcase the prototype, but instead to have it on the markets as a finished product. He explained that the company expects that the same product will firstly catch the eye of fans of luxury cars and flight enthusiasts, but that they will work towards a price tag that sits between the latest models of vehicles produced by Tesla Motors and small planes. In other words, the 2017 Flying Car should be priced somewhere around a couple hundred thousand US dollars.

The vehicle produced by AeroMobil should feature an elongated design with wings of a stable nature, capable of navigating the city road traffic and the airspace between big airports from which it could take off and land. Currently, it is expected that the first commercial model should be a two-seater and operate with a range of 435 miles. Its take-off speed should be around 81 miles per hours and once in the air, the vehicle should be able to reach the speed of around 124 mph. The model is also expected to have a full autopilot function which will be accessible once the cruising altitude it reached.

Even though the news about the 2017 Flying Car seems very promising, it is wise to remember that many companies seem to be developing their flying cars as well. Terrafugia, a US company also desires to deliver its flying car solutions before the end of 2015 or in the beginning months of 2016. But, at the same time, it is wise to remember that Terrafugia promised to do this all the way back in 2011. With this in mind, the plan proposed by AeroMobil seems promising, but until the 2017 Flying Car hits the markets, potential buyers should remain optimistically cautious about their expectations. The price is still unknown.
