The Honda EV-STER was presented for the first time in 2011 at the Tokyo Auto Show. The small sports car has been in development since 2009 and is expected to replace the S2000. It will be an all-electric vehicle although a gasoline model might become available later. Car enthusiasts describe it as the next-generation EV sports model.
Honda EV-STER – Cosmetic Changes:
The upcoming Honda electric car will share an exterior design with the Honda CR-Z. Its exterior will, however, get some major tweaks that will give the car a futuristic appearance. Concerning construction, we are looking forward to the inclusion of lightweight materials like aluminum and carbon fiber. The car’s dimensions have been estimated at 147 inches in length, 59 inches in width and 43 inches in height. The chassis is 92 inches long. White will be the main exterior color in the upcoming Honda roadster.
When having a closer look at the front end of Honda EV-STER, you will notice the company’s grille and some modern headlights. The car is a convertible one, but the roof seems to slope backward. The rear end looks bulkier with a large bumper and elevated tailgate. On the sides, the car will get pronounced aerodynamics, 5-spoke 16-alloy wheels and some more lights near the rear wheels. The major highlight of the interior of Honda EV-STER will be a twin-lever steering with 2 joystick handles. The two-seater car will have its seats covered with a classy leather material and equipped with an adjustment mechanism. The cabin will be small, but will provide enough seating space for the two passengers. The two passengers will be facing a well-arranged dashboard. The center console will carry a number of infotainment tools, including touchscreens and a navigation system. We are looking forward to more tech features such as air conditioning, audio system and connectivity options like Bluetooth, USB ports and Smartphone integration.
According to the automaker, Honda EV-STER will offer great peace of mind with safety and security features such as seatbelts, cruise control, airbags, lane keep assist, emergency braking system, blind-spot monitors, parking assist and rearview camera, among others.
Honda EV-STER – Power Expectations:
As mentioned earlier, the EV-STER will get an electric powertrain. There are rumors of the car getting three electric motors capable of generating 88 hp and some good amounts of torque. But we are sure of a 10 kWh Li-Ion battery that will store power and drive all the wheels.
The battery will enable the car cover 100 miles before running out charge. You can expect the car to attain 60 mph from the zero mark in 5.0 seconds. The top speed is estimated at 100 mph, which is a good speed for an electric vehicle.
Honda EV-STER – Price, Release Date and Competition:
The base price of the upcoming Honda roadster is estimated at $60,000. We don’t expect the price to deviate a lot from that of the S2000. As for the trim levels, we expect them to come at higher prices. The car might be available for sale by the end of 2016.
