The Volkswagen is in the process of designing the second-generation of very popular Tiguan. The German automobile manufacturer has promised to introduce a number of models and variants in this generation. One of the variants will be the VW Tiguan GTE Active- a seven-passenger crossover which will be placed above the normal Tiguan.
VW Tiguan GTE Active – Platform and Design:
According to the car manufacturer, the compact vehicle will be based on the Volkswagen Group MQB platform. So it will resemble the first generation car, but different when it comes to the size. The new Tiguan model will be longer, wider and taller than the normal model.
The front end of the VW Tiguan GTE Active will look a bit aggressive with grille bars that are integrated with LED headlights. There will also be C-shaped LED DRLs positioned to complement the headlamps. In the rear end, the car will feature a firm underbody protection, a huge bumper and also LED lights. Other exterior features include 16-inch wheels, beautiful door handles, classic windows and roof rails. Volkswagen will not leave anything to chance when designing interior space of the VW Tiguan GTE Active. The car is expected to have a roomy seating and cargo space. Concerning cabin materials, there will be Nappa leather and aluminum trim. Some classic colors such as dragon red, dark graphite, and rhodium gray will decorate the cabin surfaces.
In the cockpit, there will be the next-generation infotainment system capable of supporting many technological features. The system will consist of 9.2-inch screen display & gesture control functionality and will be the control center for other features such as navigation, climate control, and audio system. Moreover, the car will get a number of connectivity features such as Apple Car-Play, Mirror-Link, and Android Auto.
The new Tiguan model will be fitted with a myriad of safety, security and protection features. It will get ABS, hill descent control, rearview camera, cruise control, security alarms, blind-spot monitors, airbags, parking assist, lane keep assist, seatbelts, and stability control, among other features.
VW Tiguan GTE Active – Power Expectations:
The VW Tiguan GTE Active will come with a hybrid powertrain consisting of an IC engine and two motors. The engine will be capable of generating 148 hp and 184 lb-ft. The drivetrain will be connected to a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The car will have a top speed of 125 mph and will take 6.0 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. In the all-electric mode, the car will cover 20 miles while in the hybrid mode it will travel 580 miles. The powertrain will be equipped with a direct injection system to improve fuel efficiency and environment friendliness. You can look forward to fuel consumption figures of around 35 mpg in cities and 41 mpg on highways.
VW Tiguan GTE Active – Expected Date of Arrival and Price:
The base price of the VW Tiguan GTE Active will be around $26,000. So it will be an expensive SUV. The trim configurations will retail at higher prices. You can expect to part with more than $40,000 to own them. As for the release date, the car will start selling in early 2016.
